Living in the Finger Lakes region on Seneca Lake, I enjoy the nice breezes and numerous activities, making it a great topic for today. I recently came across an interesting survey from Ameriprise Financial about the reasons why buyers purchase second homes. Here are the key points:
- Vacation Destinations: 81% of buyers are looking for vacation spots to escape from larger cities and enjoy country air. The Finger Lakes region is ideal for these buyers.
- Better Weather: 49% of buyers seek locations with better weather. The Finger Lakes offers cooler temperatures and nice breezes off the lakes, with plenty of activities like camping, hiking, and swimming to cool down in the summer.

- Rental Opportunities: 41% of buyers are interested in rental opportunities, such as Airbnb, to help cover the costs of owning a second home. Many people buy vacation homes to rent them out when they are not in use.
- Primary Residence for Retirement: 33% of buyers are looking for a future primary residence for retirement.
- Family and Friends: 25% want to create family opportunities and spaces to share with friends. Many families and friends purchase vacation homes together.
